"ROTTERDAM – The Formula Zero event in Rotterdam came to a thrilling conclusion after five teams raced to win the first Sprint Race in the Formula Zero Championship. Greenchoice-Forze from the Technical University of Delft set the track record for the weekend in qualifying, but EuplatecH2 from Spain beat the Dutch team in the breathtaking final by just 0.172 seconds."
Team HercUCLAs from Los Angeles, who had unfortunately been unable to start the Main Race earlier in the afternoon due to technical difficulties, went on track first. Despite plenty of cheering from all team members, the car was not able to finish the timed flying lap. The Dutch team was up to speed immediately, however, and set the track record with a blistering lap of 36.369 seconds. The car of the British Imperial Racing Green race team, which was the most reliable car so far, qualified second just in front of the teams from Spain and Belgium.
In the Semi-Final round EuplatecH2 faced Imperial Racing Green and the Zero Emission Racing Team faced Greenchoice-Forze for places in the Final Round. The Spanish and Dutch teams came out on top to advance. In the Final Round, The Dutch team went first, and set a very quick lap of 37.956 seconds. EuplatecH2, unfazed by the solid time posted by the Dutch team, went out next and recorded a lap of 37.784 to sneak by with the win. The Spanish team celebrated loudly in front of their pit area while their driver ran a victory lap carrying the Spanish flag. The battle for the final step on the podium was won by the Belgian team when the British team was unable to start their run within the allotted 5 minute grace period.
